Continuing excerpts from Norvene Vest's Preferring Christ:
3. Oratio (prayer): apply the meaning to the present situation in one's own life, allowing the word to penetrate the heart, evoking prayerful response.

I LOVE Lectio Divina..I just don't do it as much as I would like. The times we have practiced it in Community of Hope and on Retreats has been the most meaningfull for me. O.K., I will "share" my meager attempt at a daily practice and hope that others of you will post yours since I won't be at the July 6th meeting and would love to hear how others "make time for our Lord" in our busy, busy, lives.

1. Each morning when I get up I thank God for the beautiful day. As I do my hair and make-up I have a reading(short)from "Reflections for Sisters" that includes a quote from a Psalm along with other reflections.

2. On my way into work, as I drive, I reflect on what I read and continue with my "morning prayers"

3. When I get to work I say the Prayer of Saint Teresa of Avila (it is pasted to my monitor base). I also have a "Worker's Prayer" that I sometimes say when I am extremely stressed. (I would be happy to copy it to share with those of us who are in the workplace)

4. Most of the time (not always) I read Joan Chittister's Rule of Benedict before I get into bed. (I must do this BEFORE I lay down as I fall asleep almost immediately.)

5. The last thing of my day is saying my nightly prayers. I am embarrassed to say it but a lot of the time I fall alseep before I finish. (If I happen to wake up during the night I will resume and usually get in the "amen".)

I should be better at doing more on the weekend when my work routine is not in place...but alas, I am not. I hope that my regular Sunday worship fills in somewhat. I hardly ever sit still and meditate except during Lent, at which time I REALLY try to be more disciplined.

This is kinda all I can think of for now...I've put more thought into what I do everyday than I have in a long time. It isn't much because it doesn't include reading my Bible or doing lots of other worthwhile things that would benefit my spirituality...but it's where I am right now.
Blessings,
Linda
